Sea of cortez – southerly sojourn II

Agua Verde this, Agua Verde that. Everyone loves Agua Verde. We had been hearing non-stop about how we had to go to Agua Verde. So we went. And it was great. A big bay with multiple areas to anchor in, a couple of taco stands, a market with piglets, and camper vans lining the beach made this stop feel like the big city to us. We took full advantage of the fresh fish taco stand, patronizing them both days we were there for icy margaritas and plates of fish caught from the bay. We did some light provisioning at the market, debating if we needed the 2 liter bottle of Valentina hot sauce or if the more modest table top bottle would suffice.

Feeling suffocated by this newfound city life, we struck out around sunset for a quick 15min walk to see some ancient cave paintings. There had been a misreading on my part about the distance of this walk – it was 15min TO the trail, and then the multi-mile hike started. But once we had struck out, in our inappropriate foot ware with no water, there was no turning back when this misunderstanding had been cleared up. The sunset hike was beautiful, edging down into a valley, through an oasis, along a beach, and back up into the hills until we arrived in the full darkness at the cave. To our surprise, we had company – lots of company. Some hanging from the ceiling. Some darting back and forth across the cave. Not wanting to catch rabies, we took a few snaps of the cave paintings and took back off down the trail.
